Flood alerts for West Sussex ahead of heavy rain

Published by Ryan Burrows at 5:00pm 13th November 2019.
Two flood alerts have been issued for West Sussex ahead of heavy rain forecast for Wednesday night.
The Environment Agency say there is a small chance of minor impact flooding in areas such as Midhurst, Easebourne and Fittleworth on Thursday morning.
It's as as much as 20mm of rain is projected to fall in West Sussex overnight.
They've also issued an alert for the east branch of the River Adur, affecting communities such as Cowfold, Bolney, Partridge Green and Hickstead.
What are the Environment Agency saying?
For the Western Rother region, there's warnings that flooding could affect fields, rural roads and gardens in Lodsbridge, near Selham, from 8am on Thursday, and in Fittleworth from 4pm.
"Impacts should be similar to recent weeks and so relatively minor. The forecast is still uncertain though.
"There is a low probability we could see more rain and flood water could get closer to properties.
"Further showers are possible Thursday, Friday and Saturday but shouldn't make water levels higher."

The river is expected to peak by 8pm on Thursday, returning to more normal conditions by Saturday.
Those living in the area are urged to plan ahead and avoid driving through routes vulnerable to flooding.
"We are operating our structures in Midhurst and Stedham to help keep the river flowing freely and reduce flood risk."

For the River Adur, flooding could affect fields, rural roads and gardens along the river, although the Environment Agency has said impacts should be 'relatively minor'.
"There is a low probability we could see more rain and flooding may also affect properties at Mock Bridge near Shermanbury.
"Further showers are possible Thursday, Friday and Saturday but shouldn't make water levels higher.
"The river will peak by 6pm on Thursday, returning to more normal conditions by Friday afternoon."
