Storm Erik triggers flood alert for part of West Sussex

flood

Published by Simon Fielding at 7:40am 9th February 2019. (Updated at 7:42am 9th February 2019)

A flood alert has been issued for part of West Sussex, after Storm Erik brought heavy rainfall.

The alert is in force for the Western Rother river, and is likely to affect communities around Fittleworth, Iping and Midhurst.

The Environment Agency says river levels are rising, and could cause flooding issues on Saturday.

— Met Office (@metoffice) February 8, 2019

"River levels will peak very close to Mill properties in Lodsbridge by 9.30am on Saturday morning, and around 4pm Saturday afternoon at Fittleworth.

"River levels will not rise much further through Liss and Sheet and will soon fall in those locations.

"Rain is expected to return Saturday evening into Sunday.

"We therefore expect river levels to remain higher than normal, with a risk of flooding until Monday.

"Flood protection products should be installed if you have them."
