1. What is the Public File?
Each local commercial radio station in the UK has requirements in respect of its music and local content, such as news etc. These requirements are set out in the station "Format", a document issued by Ofcom, the UK media regulator.
The Public File contains details of elements Ofcom regulate over, such as music tracks, local news etc. It is intended to give you a better understanding of our output and what we are doing for the community we serve.
The Public File is available on-line, and as a print out. Any comments on the file can be made to us or Ofcom.

July 2009 - man and woman from Worthing questioned over armed robbery on jewellers on the Isle of Wight.
July 2009 - plans for 5,000 homes at the so-called Ford Eco Town are rejected.
July 2009 - residents in the Thakeham and Storrington area voice opposition to plans for new a landfill site.
July 2009 - back to the drawing board as public art for Splash Point in Worthing proves too costly and unreliable.
July 2009 - in the face of the recession, two businessmen launch a new free newspaper for Chichester.

6. Automation & Local Programming
Sometimes it is necessary to pre-record programmes on the station (sometimes called automation). Currently, we automate at the following times:
- Monday-Friday: Midnight-06.00, 13.15-14.00, 18.15-midnight
- Saturday: Midnight-06.00, 18.00-midnight
- Sunday: Midnight-07.00, 19.00-midnight
7. Events & Charities we support
Spirit FM is very active in the support of local charities. Among the organisations we have worked with on events in recent months include Cancer Research UK, Dreams Come True and the Chestnut Tree House Childrens' Hospice.
In addition, Spirit FM supports local charities and non-profit organisations through it's ‘Local Link' feature. Broadcast through the weekday from 5am-7pm, details are broadcast of upcoming charity events, and appeals are made for volunteers when necessary.
Spirit FM supports, attends and broadcasts from local events whenever possible. Events we are regularly involved with include:

Recent programming highlights include:
October 2007 - Coverage (and hosting) of the Support St Richards Rally in Chichester, attended by an estimated 15,000 people
September 2007 - Spirit FM's Local Hero Awards at the Hilton Avisford Park Hotel
September 2007 - Live broadcast from the 2007 International Bognor Birdman
Summer 2007 - The Spirit FM West Sussex Pub Tour (three hour live outside broadcast from a different West Sussex Pub every Sunday
August 2007 - a one hour special with Mark King from the band Level 42, ahead of the band's Arundel Festival show, promoted by Spirit FM
July 2007 - Live outside broadcast from Chichester's Priory Park, ahead of the station's concert featuring M People

Detail
| Speech and information are important ingredients for the station, and will include local information, community news, regular phone-ins, local interviews, whats-ons, discussions and so on: the station is the voice of the area. Speech will not fall below 15% of daytime output, and must include some in-depth coverage of local arts and entertainment.
Bulletins with local news will be broadcast at least hourly during peaktime, including at least two extended bulletins each weekday. (This requirement may alternatively be met by airing magazine-style programmes combining music and news-based speech over longer periods of up to one hour, provided that in each case overall speech minutage is not less than one-quarter of the total). National news will feature at other times.
The music is mainly a spread of ex-top 40 hits from the seventies (or older where appropriate) through to the present day. Current and re-current tracks will never make up more than 60% of the music output. During non daytime specialist shows may feature genres of music which complement the main music mix. |

If you have any complaint about the radio station, for example, something you have heard - an advertisement or news story - in the first instance contact the station using the above details.
